New and Returning Routes for Allegiant Air in Florida

Allegiant Air is expanding its presence in Florida with the introduction of thirty new and returning seasonal routes. Many of these routes will provide service to and from Fort Lauderdale, which has become a focal point for increased air travel following the sudden closure of Spirit Airlines.

Eight of these routes are new for the Las Vegas-based airline, which specializes in connecting smaller and mid-sized cities to popular leisure destinations. These new services are largely set to begin in the latter half of 2026. Allegiant is one of several airlines stepping in to fill the void left by Spirit Airlines’ shutdown, alongside carriers like American Airlines, Avianca, and JetBlue, all of whom are increasing their flights to Fort Lauderdale.

Impact on Airport Employees

The recent changes have had a significant impact on airport employees. According to a WARN notice received by the state on May 4, 2,529 employees at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport were affected by layoffs that began on May 2. At Miami International Airport, 181 employees were also impacted starting on the same date. In total, 4,057 employees across Florida were affected by these closures.

Excitement Over New Routes

“We’re excited to announce these new routes and believe it is an important time for Allegiant to increase travel options in these markets,” said Drew Wells, Allegiant’s chief commercial officer, in a May 19 release.

Allegiant Routes to and from South Florida

Allegiant is launching several new and seasonal routes from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) and Palm Beach International Airport (PBI). Some of the key routes include:

Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL):

  • Boston, Massachusetts, Boston-Logan International Airport (BOS) – 3x-weekly flights start Oct. 1 (new route)
  • Kansas City, Missouri, Kansas City International Airport (MCI) – 2x-weekly flights start Oct. 2 (new route)
  • Omaha, Nebraska, Omaha Eppley Airfield (OMA) – 2x-weekly flights start Oct. 2 (new route)
  • Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) – 3x-weekly flights start Oct. 2 (new route)
  • Rochester, New York, Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport (ROC) – 2x-weekly flights start Oct. 8 (seasonal return)

Palm Beach International Airport (PBI):

  • Grand Rapids, Michigan, Gerald R. Ford International Airport (GRR), flights start Oct. 1

Other Airlines Expanding Their Presence in South Florida

Several other airlines are also increasing their presence in South Florida, adding more flights to Fort Lauderdale and other regional airports.

  • American Airlines is adding more flights to Fort Lauderdale, including an additional daily flight to O’Hare International Airport (ORD) starting Sept. 9, and two additional daily flights to Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) after Oct. 5.
  • Avianca Airlines is introducing an additional daily flight between Fort Lauderdale and El Dorado International Airport (BOG) in Bogotá, Colombia, starting June 1.
  • Breeze Airlines is adding six more flights connecting Florida airports to Atlantic City, Pittsburgh, Cancun, and St. Thomas.
  • Delta Air Lines is adding additional flights between Boston and both Orlando and Miami, starting Dec. 19, and more Orlando flights between Detroit, Atlanta, and New York.
  • Frontier Airlines is launching daily service between Detroit and both Fort Lauderdale and Orlando, starting July 5, and at least nine more flights to Orlando to cities such as Baltimore, Boston, Charlotte, Memphis, Nashville, and more.
  • JetBlue Airlines is dramatically expanding its already-large presence at Fort Lauderdale with new flights or increased service between about 18 other cities.
  • Southwest Airlines is adding six new routes for Orlando, a Miami-Las Vegas route, and adding additional service for 17 cities at Orlando.

These developments mark a significant shift in the Florida aviation landscape, offering travelers more choices and improving connectivity to popular destinations.
