Facebook and Instagram are currently experiencing a widespread outage, marking the second time this week that users have encountered issues accessing the platforms. The disruption began around 12:45 PM and has already impacted over 5,000 users across both services.

As of 1:00 PM, approximately 4,400 users were struggling to access Facebook, while nearly 600 reported problems with Instagram. Additionally, around 300 individuals faced difficulties using Facebook Messenger, according to Downdetector, a service that tracks internet outages.

Most users are encountering issues through the mobile applications, such as being stuck on error pages when attempting to log in. One user expressed frustration, stating, “Urgh down again. Getting, ‘Sorry, something went wrong. We’re working on it and we’ll get it fixed as soon as we can.’” Another user added, “Instagram stop breaking down every three days.”

Thousands of users in the United States and Spain are also reporting similar issues. However, the situation is gradually improving, with complaints about the apps beginning to decrease around 1:40 PM. At that time, only 100 outage reports were recorded for Facebook, and around 310 for Instagram.

Meta, the company that owns Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, has not reported any known issues on its status page. This suggests that the company may not be aware of the current disruptions or is working behind the scenes to resolve them.

Impact on Desktop Users

Users who attempted to access the desktop versions of the platforms received a message indicating that their accounts were “temporarily unavailable.” The message stated, “Your account is currently unavailable due to a site issue.” It further advised users, “We expect this to be resolved shortly. Please try again in a few minutes.”

This type of message is typically displayed during server maintenance or unexpected technical failures. While the exact cause of the outage remains unclear, it is likely related to an internal system malfunction or network issue.

This incident follows a major worldwide outage that occurred on Sunday, which peaked around 9:00 AM. During that event, 5,200 Facebook users in the UK were unable to access their accounts or share posts.
