A New Connection to the Aloha State

Residents of the Treasure Valley are in for a treat as the Boise Airport prepares to offer a new seasonal direct flight to Honolulu. This service, which will only be available during the winter months, is now open for ticket purchases.

Alaska Airlines has announced that it will provide one daily flight from the Boise Airport to the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Honolulu starting December 17 and continuing through March 21. This route marks the 29th direct destination for the Boise Airport and will be the only nonstop service to Hawaii in Idaho.

The seven-hour flight, operated by a Boeing 737 MAX, will depart from Boise at 10:20 a.m. and arrive in Honolulu at 2:20 p.m. local time every day. On the return trip, the six-hour flight will leave Honolulu at 12:42 p.m. local time and reach Boise at 9:45 p.m. These times were outlined in a press release issued by Alaska Airlines.

Travelers can already start purchasing tickets on Alaska’s website, where round-trip fares in December begin at $611. The airline emphasized that this new route offers convenience for passengers traveling between Hawaii and Idaho for winter holidays and spring vacations. From Honolulu, travelers can easily connect to other islands within Hawaii on the same day.

“The Honolulu route builds on recent Boise growth, including seasonal Anchorage service, and reflects Alaska’s focus on connecting the community to places travelers want to go,” stated Alaska Airlines.

A Long-Awaited Dream Becomes Reality

The Boise Airport has long been interested in establishing a direct flight to Hawaii. “Hawaii is consistently one of our passengers’ most requested destinations, and we’re thrilled to see this highly anticipated route become a reality,” said Kathleen Watkins, the airport’s interim director, in a statement.

According to previous reporting by the Idaho Statesman, combining travel to Maui, Kauai, Kona, and Honolulu, Hawaii ranked as the No. 7 most-favored travel destination for Boise passengers in 2025. The hope for a direct flight to Hawaii was heightened when Alaska Airlines acquired Hawaiian Airlines in a $1.9 billion deal in 2024. Former Boise Airport Director Rebecca Hupp had previously expressed that getting the nonstop service to Hawaii was a key priority for the airport.

Expanding Horizons

As the Boise Airport continues to grow, both in size and passenger numbers, it is also expanding its network of nonstop routes. On June 10, Alaska Airlines began service on a new route from Boise to Anchorage, Alaska, operating twice a week during the summer on Wednesdays and Saturdays. This route is expected to run through mid-August and marks the first time Boise passengers could fly nonstop to Alaska.

In addition to new routes, the airport is also adding more direct options to established destinations. Frontier Airlines announced in June that it will launch a nonstop route between Boise and Las Vegas starting September 10, operating four times a week.

In 2025, more than 5 million passengers traveled through the Boise Airport, setting a new travel record. The numbers have continued to rise in the first part of 2026, with passenger traffic ahead by 1.3% compared to the same time last year, according to the airport’s records.
