Nick Reiner, the director of The Princess Bride, has reportedly undergone a drastic transformation seven months after his arrest for allegedly murdering his parents, Rob and Michele Reiner. The couple was found stabbed to death in their Los Angeles home on December 14, 2025, with Nick, now 32, facing two counts of first-degree murder.

According to reports, Nick’s appearance has changed significantly since his arrest. “Nick no longer looks like Nick. He is rapidly deteriorating. No one would recognize him,” an insider shared. “He is almost bald because they have to keep his hair super short to keep the bugs out, and he is super skinny because of the intense medication he is on. His eyes are very sunken in,” the source described.

In addition to his physical changes, Nick’s mental health has also taken a severe turn. He has been held in solitary confinement, which has worsened his condition. “Nick has not been well for many years. But before jail some of his personality could be recognized. Not now,” the source said. “He is like a babbling child, totally out of it. It’s so bad his lawyers have a hard time talking to him.”

Nick’s siblings, Jake Reiner, 35, and Romy Reiner, 28, are deeply concerned about his well-being. They reportedly fear that he may never recover his sanity and could even die due to the strain on his heart. Since last year, Nick has been detained at the Los Angeles Twin Towers Correctional Facility. If convicted, he could face life in prison without the possibility of parole or even a death sentence.

Nick has long struggled with mental health and substance abuse issues. He was diagnosed with schizophrenia just before the murders and was prescribed new medication that allegedly contributed to his erratic behavior. His battle with addiction began in his teenage years, with a history of using heroin, methamphetamine, and cocaine. He underwent multiple rehab stints starting at age 14.
During the height of his addictions, Nick experienced periods of homelessness. In 2016, he told People about his struggles: “I was homeless in Maine. I was homeless in New Jersey. I was homeless in Texas. I spent nights on the street. I spent weeks on the street. It was not fun.”
Just a day before the murders, Rob and Michele had a heated argument with Nick during a holiday party hosted by Conan O’Brien. Sources revealed that the All in the Family actor expressed concern about his son’s “deteriorating” mental health at the event. This incident seems to have marked a turning point in the tragic events that followed.
