Manchester United’s Midfield Moves: What’s Next?
Manchester United has made a significant move in the midfield, but the lack of an official announcement from the club has raised questions. Fabrizio Romano, a well-known transfer expert, has provided clarity on the situation.
The main topic of discussion this summer for Manchester United is who will be signed to overhaul their central midfield. Several moves for players like Mateus Fernandes, Sandro Tonali, and Elliot Anderson have been considered, but none have materialized due to the high costs involved.
Romano has confirmed that the club is exploring moves for Alex Scott and Aurelien Tchouameni next. However, both deals seem challenging, and it looks like the Red Devils will continue to search for their second and third midfield signings.
Ederson’s Potential Move
The first potential arrival, at least in theory, is Ederson from Atalanta. Manchester United has already reached a club-to-club agreement worth €45 million (€40.5 million plus €4.5 million in add-ons) with the Serie A side approximately one month ago.
Personal terms have been finalized, and Ederson has passed a medical in New York. He has also spoken about the move, stating, “Certainly, everything is almost done, but now I have to enjoy this moment. This is a wonderful experience and you have to enjoy the most.”
Despite these developments, there has been no official announcement or confirmation from Manchester United as of July.
Why the Delay?
Fabrizio Romano explained the delay during a YouTube video. He mentioned that Manchester United has a verbal agreement with Atalanta, and the two clubs have been in talks since a month ago.
However, the deal is still pending because Ederson needs to complete the second part of his medical with Manchester United in England before everything is approved. The first part of the medical has already been completed, but the official one is yet to happen.
Ederson’s Situation
The reason for the delay is somewhat unfortunate for Manchester United, as Ederson was not originally selected in Carlo Ancelotti’s Brazil squad. He was a late call-up after Roma full-back Wesley Franca suffered an injury on the eve of the tournament and had to withdraw.
Regardless of the delay, it is clear that Ederson will become a Manchester United player. The official announcement will have to wait until Brazil’s campaign concludes.
Other Moves Being Considered
In addition to Ederson, Manchester United is looking into other potential signings. The club is reportedly in discussions with Bournemouth regarding the possibility of signing Alex Scott. There are also talks about how West Ham might allow Manchester United to sign Summerville at a lower cost than previously reported.
As the summer transfer window progresses, fans can expect more updates on Manchester United’s midfield plans. For now, the focus remains on completing the Ederson deal and exploring other options to strengthen the team.
