The Fourth of July pregame festivities before the France vs. Paraguay World Cup Round of 16 match will be remembered as one of the most remarkable in history. While it may seem unusual to celebrate an iconic American cultural moment when no American team was involved, there is a compelling story behind this event that deserves attention.

On Saturday at Philadelphia Stadium (Lincoln Financial Field), the field was transformed into a stunning representation of the American flag. This visual spectacle was accompanied by additional performers and a dazzling display of pyrotechnics that set the tone for a memorable occasion. The Philadelphia Boys Choir & Chorale delivered a performance that will be talked about for years with a powerful rendition of “America the Beautiful,” marking the 250th anniversary of America’s founding.

As the choir performed, two young individuals—one a White young man and the other a Black young lady—offered a spoken word performance that captured the essence of the nation’s ideals. Their oral poetry highlighted the beauty of America’s founding, especially its significance to the City of Brotherly Love.

“250 years ago, in this city, an idea found its voice,” the young man said.

“Not perfect. Not finished. But bold enough to believe in people,” the young woman added, as the choir harmonized in the background.

During the performance, the choir and spoken word artists reflected on how America’s core principles of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness have led to extraordinary freedoms. These values were also tied to the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup, which is expected to “unite the world.”

Other ceremonial highlights included an appearance by Miss Pennsylvania, Stephanie Skinner, who was dressed as Lady Liberty, and a Navy flyover that added to the patriotic atmosphere. These elements combined to create an emotional experience that left many spectators in awe.

The event was not just a celebration of the United States’ history but also a tribute to its ongoing journey. It showcased the nation’s ability to inspire and bring people together, even in unexpected ways.

In addition to the musical and visual elements, the pregame festivities served as a reminder of the importance of unity and shared values. The event was a testament to the enduring spirit of America and its ability to captivate audiences around the globe.

Happy Birthday, America!
