One year has passed since the tragic Gabriel House fire in Fall River, which claimed the lives of 10 individuals and left dozens injured. The incident occurred at an assisted living facility, where approximately 70 residents were present during the blaze. While investigators have determined the fire to be accidental, the effectiveness of the fire sprinklers and alarm system is still being reviewed by state authorities, nearly a year after the event.

The fire resulted in injuries for nearly 30 people, including six firefighters who responded to the emergency. In the wake of the tragedy, a vigil is planned to honor the victims and provide support to those affected.

“We want to have this time to most importantly let the families who lost loved ones know and the survivors, as well as the first responders that fall river cares and supports them,” said Rob Nemkovich, a chaplain with the Fall River Police Department.

The remembrance ceremony is scheduled to take place on Oliver Street at 6:30 p.m. The event will include a symbolic dove release, with one dove released for each life lost in the fire. Survivors and first responders will also have the opportunity to share their experiences and reflections during the ceremony.

Details of the Remembrance Ceremony

  • The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Oliver Street.
  • A dove release will be conducted, representing each life lost in the fire.
  • Survivors and first responders will speak at the ceremony.
  • The gathering aims to provide a space for healing and community support.
