A New Way to Cool Off in Prince William County

Prince William County has a new attraction that promises to keep residents and visitors cool during the summer months. The newly opened sprayground at Catharpin Recreational Park officially opened on July 6, marking a significant addition to the area’s recreational facilities.

The event was celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by Seth Hendler-Voss, the county’s director of parks and recreation, Gainesville District Supervisor George Stewart, and several community members. Hendler-Voss expressed his excitement about the project, stating:

“This is a very special project. We have been waiting for this day since 2022 when we first started the design on this project. Now the west end of Prince William County has their very own sprayground. And the best part about it – it’s free.”

Features of the Sprayground

Located next to the existing playground, the sprayground is designed with a colorful sports theme. It includes multiple sprayers that provide a refreshing way for families to enjoy the outdoors during the hot summer days.

The facility is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., operating from the Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day Monday. This schedule ensures that the sprayground is accessible for the majority of the summer season.

Rules and Regulations

To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all visitors, the sprayground has specific rules in place:

  • No food, drinks, tobacco products, glass, or alcoholic beverages are allowed.
  • Pets are not permitted within the sprayground area.
  • Climbing on any of the features is strictly prohibited.
  • Children who are not toilet trained must wear a swim diaper under rubber pants.
  • Use of the sprayground is not allowed during severe weather conditions, such as thunderstorms, lightning, tornadoes, or other hazardous weather.
  • Parental supervision is required at all times.

These rules are in place to maintain a clean and safe environment for all users.

Location and Accessibility

Catharpin Recreational Park is located at 12500 Kyle Wilson Way, Catharpin. The park is easily accessible and offers a variety of recreational activities beyond the sprayground, making it a popular destination for families.

The opening of the sprayground is a testament to the county’s commitment to providing free and inclusive recreational opportunities for residents. With its vibrant design and family-friendly atmosphere, the new sprayground is sure to become a favorite spot for many.

Whether you’re looking for a way to beat the heat or simply want to enjoy some fun in the water, the new sprayground at Catharpin Recreational Park is a perfect choice. Its availability throughout the summer months ensures that everyone can take advantage of this exciting new addition.
