New Seasonal Flights Expand Access to Hawaii

Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines are introducing new seasonal flights to and from Hawaii, aiming to enhance connectivity during peak travel times. These additions reflect the airlines’ commitment to meeting the growing demand for air travel in the region.

Alaska Airlines Launches New Nonstop Routes

Starting in mid-December, Alaska Airlines will launch two new nonstop seasonal flights: one between Honolulu and Boise, Idaho, and another between Honolulu and Spokane, Washington. This makes Alaska Airlines the only carrier offering direct service on both routes. The airline is also adding three weekly seasonal flights between Honolulu and Las Vegas, which will operate during peak holiday and spring break travel periods.

“We’re excited to expand access to and from Hawaii with new nonstop Boise and Spokane service, giving guests in two growing markets an easier way to reach the Hawaiian Islands,” said Kirsten Amrine, Alaska Airlines’ vice president of network planning and revenue management. “These new routes provide travelers with more convenient options to explore the islands.”

Hawaiian Airlines Adjusts Its Route Network

As part of these changes, Hawaiian Airlines will discontinue its seasonal Honolulu-Auckland route. The decision comes as a result of several factors, including high fuel costs, slower-than-expected demand recovery, unfavorable exchange rates, and shifting travel trends.

“New Zealand is deeply important to us as part of our Pacific island ohana. However, we must carefully allocate our limited capacity to markets where demand is strongest,” said Andrew Stanbury, regional managing director for the South Pacific at Alaska Airlines. The airline emphasized that this move allows it to focus on routes that better align with current traveler needs.

Increased Capacity During Peak Travel Times

The addition of these seasonal flights is expected to increase Hawaii’s capacity by 3% year over year. During peak holiday travel periods, the increase could be as high as 6%. This expansion aims to accommodate the surge in visitors looking to enjoy the islands’ natural beauty and cultural attractions.

Planning Your Trip

Travelers interested in taking advantage of these new routes can find more information or book their trips through the respective airline websites. With these updates, Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines continue to play a vital role in connecting Hawaii to other parts of the United States and beyond.
