Strategic Strikes on Russian Airbases in Occupied Crimea

Ukrainian military intelligence has revealed a series of successful drone strikes targeting Russian airbases in occupied Crimea, showcasing the effectiveness of advanced surveillance and precision weaponry. These operations have not only damaged critical infrastructure but also significantly impacted Russia’s military capabilities in the region.

Destruction of a MiG-29 Fighter Jet

On the night of June 25-26, 2026, the HUR Department of Unmanned Systems conducted a targeted operation against the Belbek airbase, which is under temporary Russian control. The mission resulted in the destruction of a Russian MiG-29 fighter jet. This strike was executed by HUR special forces using drones, demonstrating their ability to conduct high-impact operations in hostile territory.

In addition to the MiG-29, the operation also destroyed an airfield launch unit that was servicing a Russian combat aircraft at the time of the strike. This dual-target approach highlights the strategic planning involved in these missions.

The financial impact of this attack on Russia is estimated to be in the tens of millions of dollars, underscoring the economic toll of these ongoing conflicts.

Drone Strikes on Saky Airbase

Earlier, on the night of July 1, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) launched a series of drone strikes against hangars housing Russian fighter jets at the Saky military airbase in occupied Crimea. These attacks were confirmed to have successfully targeted five hangars, with two of them containing Su-30 and Su-30SM fighter jets.

A fire broke out in one of the hangars housing a Su-30SM after the strike, indicating that the target was hit effectively. This incident highlights the destructive power of the drones used in these operations.

Continued Attacks on Saky and Hvardiiske Airbases

On July 3, SBU drones carried out a second attack on the Saky airbase within a week. In addition to targeting fighter jets, the drones also struck hangars at the Hvardiiske airbase in occupied Crimea.

At the Saky airbase, seven aircraft hangars were hit. These hangars housed various types of fighter jets, including the Su-30SM, Su-30, and Su-24 frontline bombers. Preliminary information suggests that at least seven aircraft were either destroyed or damaged as a result of these strikes.

These coordinated attacks demonstrate the growing capability of Ukrainian intelligence agencies to disrupt Russian military operations in the region. The use of drones has become a key component of these strategies, allowing for precise and effective strikes without risking human lives.

Conclusion

The recent drone strikes on Russian airbases in occupied Crimea represent a significant shift in the dynamics of the conflict. With each successful operation, Ukrainian forces are not only inflicting damage on Russian military assets but also sending a strong message about their determination and technological prowess. As the situation continues to evolve, these strategic actions will likely play a crucial role in shaping the future of the conflict.
