A New Step in the Investigation into the Fatal Shooting of Renee Good

A senior official from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has expressed approval of the handover of evidence related to the investigation into the fatal shooting of Renee Good. The incident occurred on January 7 in Minneapolis, where Good, a 37-year-old unarmed mother of three, was shot by ICE agent Jonathan Ross while attempting to drive away from law enforcement officers. This tragic event has sparked widespread concern and calls for accountability.

In addition to Good’s death, another 37-year-old woman, Alex Pretti, an intensive care nurse from Virginia, was killed by agents during a protest in Minneapolis on January 24. These events have led to increased scrutiny of ICE operations and the conduct of its agents.

Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty recently announced that federal prosecutors had provided hard drives containing statements and bodycam footage, as well as the Honda Pilot in which Good was shot. This action followed a lawsuit filed by Minnesota against the administration in March. Moriarty stated, “The wonderful thing now is we have all the evidence.” This handover is seen as a critical step in the ongoing investigation.

Antonio Romanucci, the attorney representing the Good family, described the evidence handover as “an important and meaningful step towards justice and accountability.” He emphasized the significance of having all the necessary information to pursue a fair and thorough investigation.

Controversies and Concerns Surrounding ICE Operations

Earlier this year, a senior ICE official had made a strong statement to PunchUp, a new investigations Substack from the Daily Beast, about the FBI’s stalled probe into Good’s killing. The official reportedly said the FBI needed to “s–t or get off the pot,” highlighting frustration with the lack of progress in the case.

PunchUp also reported that Jonathan Ross, the agent involved in Good’s shooting, had been quietly reassigned to a new role in another state. This move generated significant backlash in Congress, raising questions about transparency and the handling of such cases.

A senior ICE insider told PunchUp that agents are being “pushed to the breaking point” due to White House demands for 2,000 arrests per day. This pressure has been linked to two fatal shootings in the past week, prompting calls for a pause in operations. Just hours after these reports surfaced, sources indicated that such operations had been halted nationwide.

Calls for Accountability and Transparency

The incidents involving Good and Pretti have intensified calls for accountability within ICE and other law enforcement agencies. Critics argue that the current operational pressures may be contributing to reckless behavior and endangering lives. The recent handover of evidence is viewed as a positive development, but many believe more needs to be done to ensure transparency and prevent future tragedies.

The Daily Beast has reached out to the White House, Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and ICE for comment on these developments. However, as of now, no official responses have been released.

Ongoing Investigations and Public Interest

Tom Latchem, a journalist known for uncovering secrets and scandals involving powerful individuals and institutions, continues to investigate these issues. His reporting through PunchUp on Substack has brought attention to the challenges faced by law enforcement and the need for reform.

As the investigation into Good’s death continues, the public remains vigilant. The hope is that the evidence provided will lead to a full and fair resolution, bringing justice for the victims and their families.
