A Missing Mother’s Story

Angelica Brophy, a 44-year-old mother of two from Oceanside, California, has been missing for over a week, leaving her family and community in deep concern. The emergency room nurse was last seen on Monday, July 6, when she visited a local casino and then drove to Palomar Mountain State Park. Her husband reported her missing after she failed to pick up their daughter from summer camp as planned and didn’t return home that evening.

Last Seen at the Casino and Mountain Park

According to reports, Angelica had visited Harrah’s Casino in the afternoon and then headed to Palomar Mountain State Park, a location she often frequented for hiking with her loved ones. The park is about a 15-mile drive from her home. She was expected to collect her daughter from summer camp that day but never arrived.

Her husband filed a missing person report with the Oceanside Police Department around 9:30 p.m. that night. Since then, authorities have been working tirelessly to locate her.

Search Efforts Continue

Two days after her disappearance, officers attempted to locate her cellphone, but it was either turned off or the battery had died. On Thursday, July 9, her car was found in a parking lot at Palomar Mountain State Park, but she wasn’t inside. Search and rescue teams spent the following four days scouring the area, while California State Parks divers searched a pond at the state park. Additional help came from the San Diego Harbor Police Department, who joined the search on Monday, July 13.

Family’s Response and Support

Martin Fabregas, one of Brophy’s brothers, told KNSD that the family is trying to stay positive, while another brother, Manny Fabregas, said they’re “all in a state of limbo.” Brophy’s sister-in-law, Lisa Fabregas, described her as a “wonderful, thoughtful” woman and a “very good mom” who would do “anything” for her children.

“She is funny and kooky, and will sing at the top of her lungs and will not have one note in tune, but she does not care,” Lisa shared. “She loves life and we really just need her back.”

The family has been actively putting up missing person posters in the area and sharing them on social media in hopes of finding any leads. A Bring Angelica Home Facebook page and group have been created, and family and friends plan to search the Palomar area on Tuesday, July 14.

Ongoing Investigation

Oceanside Police Captain Nick Nunez stated that officers are not suspecting foul play. He mentioned that detectives are speaking to security staff at the casino to determine if anyone was with Brophy or if she may have won a large sum of money during her visit.

Authorities urge anyone with information to contact them at 760-435-4900. The Oceanside Police Department has not yet provided further updates.

The community continues to support the Brophy family, hoping for a safe return of Angelica. As the search intensifies, many remain hopeful that someone will come forward with crucial information that could lead to her safe return.
