TUCSON, Ariz. – A series of storms swept through the Tucson area on Monday, July 13, resulting in at least three water rescues. This marked the third consecutive day of monsoon activity, with sporadic and brief power outages reported across southern Arizona.
The Tucson Fire Department (TFD) responded to three incidents where vehicles became stuck in flooded roadways. In most cases, drivers were able to exit their vehicles safely without assistance. However, at one location, TFD personnel had to help a driver who was trapped in the water.
Safety Reminder from the Tucson Fire Department
The TFD issued a strong warning to residents about the dangers of driving through flooded areas. They emphasized the importance of the message “Turn Around, Don’t Drown!” According to the department, even a small amount of water can create hazardous conditions for drivers.
“If you come across a flooded roadway, it’s crucial to find an alternate route and never attempt to drive through it,” the TFD advised. The message is clear: staying safe should always take precedence over convenience.
Flooding in Southern Arizona
One positive aspect of southern Arizona is that flooding typically does not last long. Most roads tend to become passable within a few minutes once the water recedes. However, this does not mean that drivers should take risks. The potential for sudden changes in weather and water levels makes caution essential.
