Disney Trading Card Frenzy Sparks Long Lines and Chaos

Disney fans across the globe have been showing their devotion in a big way, with massive lines forming outside Disney stores in an attempt to secure the latest releases of the company’s trading card game. The excitement was particularly evident in Downtown Disney, where attendees lined up overnight, creating a scene that stretched far beyond the usual tourist hotspots.

The frenzy began as Disney launched two new sets of its trading card game, which quickly became the most anticipated releases for collectors. At the Pin Traders store, located beneath the Disneyland Monorail track, the queue grew into a complex maze that snaked all the way to Salt & Straw. The line doubled back on itself multiple times, carefully avoiding encroaching on the rest of the shopping district.

Some dedicated collectors arrived as early as Thursday night, eager to be among the first to purchase the new sets. Despite the official sales start time around 7 a.m., the store had to cap the line by 8 a.m. due to overwhelming demand.

“I’ve seen some massive lines at Disneyland but nothing that stretched this far before with this many switchbacks. Good luck to all the Lorcana fans this morning,” one social media user wrote.

Another fan shared their frustration: “Whelp… I’ve done every single @DisneyLorcana drop at Downtown Disney since they started them, and this is easily the worst. I definitely won’t be getting any product.”

This kind of enthusiasm wasn’t limited to California. In Orlando, at Disney Springs, the crowds were so large that rideshare drop-offs and parking garage access were blocked before 7 a.m. Fans waited outside the shopping complex, enduring long waits just to get their hands on the new cards.

Things escalated even further in London, where the release was ultimately scrapped altogether. The store was forced to close after crowds became too large, prompting police officers to arrive on the scene to manage the situation and issue a dispersal order.

The hype surrounding these releases isn’t just about nostalgia. The rarest cards from the game can sell for thousands of dollars, making each pack a potential goldmine for collectors. This has turned every purchase into a high-stakes gamble, with fans hoping to find that elusive rare card.

Two of the latest sets include the $99.99 Lorcana Curator’s Collection: Heroines Edition, featuring six beloved Disney heroines—Ariel, Jasmine, Mulan, Tinker Bell, Elsa, and Anna. Another set, the Disney Lorcana: Attack of the Vine, introduces fan favorites Mike Wazowski, Sulley, and Boo to the trading card game for the first time.
