The Road to Greatness: Tim Tszyu’s Journey to the Top
Tim Tszyu is set to face Errol Spence on July 26 in Australia, and he’s already looking forward to this high-stakes matchup. For Tszyu, this fight represents more than just another title bout—it’s a culmination of lessons learned from past experiences that have brought him to the peak of his career. He believes he’s at his best and is ready to show the world what he’s made of.
A Fresh Start and New Confidence
Tszyu shared his thoughts on what he expects from this fight, emphasizing how he feels rejuvenated and more confident than ever. “I feel like I’m sort of like rejuvinated to a certain extent. I feel like I’m a bit refreshed. I feel better than ever, I’ll be honest with you, physically, mentally. Spence has to expect the best version.”
He also spoke about finding himself and understanding his body and capabilities. “I know my body, I know what I’m made of. I know what it takes to get in peak position. I think over the years you learn what you’re good at, what you’re bad at, learn from your flaws and this is the best of Tim Tszyu right now, sitting here.”
Spence’s Motivation and Strategy
Tszyu acknowledged that Spence might see this as his first major fight in a while. “I don’t think he’s got too many big fights ahead of him, so I think he’s trying to make the most of every opportunity now. He’s just trying to go for the big names.”
However, Tszyu isn’t intimidated by Spence’s reputation or experience. He sees this as an opportunity to prove himself on the biggest stage. “I’m very motivated and the fact that he’s underestimating me, I feel like. He thinks like ‘oh, this guy’s going to be a walk in the park. I’m going to smash him, he’s never fought anybody my level.’ That’s fair enough, that’s what he’s thinking. But when I get in the ring there I want to shock him.”
The Challenge of Facing Spence
Tszyu recognized the challenge Spence presents, particularly in terms of his work rate and aggression. “I think with Spence, what he’s good at is he’s got that dog in him and he’s able to throw a lot of punches, puts on a good work rate. But in terms of work rate, I’ve been in the ring with Sebastian Fundora so I sort of understand what that means and what kind of fight that brings, but it’s a bit easier to hit than someone who’s 6’7’.”
Despite Spence’s confidence, Tszyu remains focused on his goal. “I think he’s got a certain arrogance about him, and that could be because he made a shit ton of money and doesn’t need to be doing this and thinks down on myself, but that’s alright. I just want to hurt him. It’s quite simple.”
Preparing for the Big Fight
As the date approaches, Tszyu is fully committed to delivering his best performance. He knows that this fight will test not only his physical abilities but also his mental strength. “This is the best of Tim Tszyu right now, sitting here,” he said, reinforcing his belief in his current form.
With a clear mindset and a strong sense of purpose, Tszyu is ready to take on Spence and prove that he belongs among the elite. Whether it’s through his work rate, power, or strategy, he’s determined to leave a lasting impression in the ring.
