Richard Gere has been spotted on set as he begins filming for his latest project, an unconventional romance that promises to be a compelling cinematic experience. The 76-year-old Hollywood legend is starring alongside Diana Silvers, a 28-year-old actress known for her role in “Booksmart.” Together, they are portraying characters in Edward Zwick’s adaptation of Lisa Halliday’s critically acclaimed novel Asymmetry, which delves into the complex relationship between a 70-year-old author and a young editorial assistant.
The filming took place in New York City, with the pair seen working on set on Monday, July 13. Gere, who once famously criticized former President Donald Trump, was dressed in a dark grey suit jacket over a forest-green button-down shirt, paired with dark pants and sunglasses. His co-star, Silvers, wore a grey tank top, a yellow sweater draped over her shoulders, a black shirt, and loafers while carrying a large black bag.
The two were also seen filming in Riverside Park on Thursday, July 2, where they were captured sitting on a bench, laughing together. This scene marks the first time their characters, Ezra and Alice, meet in Central Park, setting the stage for the emotional journey that follows.

In the film, Gere plays Ezra, a famous author, while Silvers portrays Alice, a young editorial assistant. Their characters fall in love and embark on a secret relationship that challenges societal norms and expectations. According to the film’s synopsis:
“Their one moment of eye contact sparks a connection that leads them both down a life-changing rabbit hole, where they create a private world just for two. Ezra, famous for his audacious work, finds someone with whom he can be openly vulnerable, and Alice finds the courage to explore her own aspirations as a writer. Until it is all put at risk when their secret relationship is exposed.”

The novel Asymmetry was first released in 2018 and quickly gained recognition, landing on The New York Times’ list of most remarkable books of the 21st century. Its adaptation is directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Edward Zwick, known for works like The Last Samurai. Zwick, making his return to feature films after eight years, also co-wrote the screenplay with Halliday and Marshall Herskovitz.
“I have enjoyed working with Ed and Marshall on transposing Alice and Ezra’s story for the screen,” Halliday said in a press release about the adaptation. “I am immensely grateful to them for their humor, ingenuity, courage, compassion, and dedication.”
Zwick added, “Like so many others, I was charmed by Lisa’s book, not just because it’s emotional, insightful, and very funny, but because it’s about two people who discover that what the world calls asymmetry can in fact have another name: love.”

The film was announced in early May by Deadline, with production beginning in New York City in early July. Stacey Snider, chief creative officer at FilmNation Entertainment, and Clay Pecorin, co-founder and partner at Rainmaker Films, commented on the project:
“Asymmetry tells an unconventional love story that explores an improbable connection between two people at very different stages in their lives, which challenges their — and our — preconceptions about love and power.”
As of now, no official release date has been announced for Asymmetry, but fans of Gere and Silvers, as well as readers of Halliday’s novel, are eagerly awaiting the film’s debut.
