EAST LANSING − Michigan State University has once again proven its standing as a top-tier institution, securing a spot among the best global universities in the latest U.S. News & World Report ranking for 2026-27. The university was recognized as the 127th best institution out of a total of 2,250 colleges and universities evaluated, placing it within the top 6% of global institutions.
The ranking is based on several key factors, including the research reputation of the universities both regionally and globally, their publication rankings, and the impact of their citations. This comprehensive evaluation spans across 105 countries, highlighting the global nature of the competition. Within the United States, Michigan State University ranks at number 46, showcasing its strong presence among domestic institutions.

In addition to its overall ranking of 127th, Michigan State University holds the number one position in the county for Best Universities for education and educational research, according to the U.S. News & World Report.
