A Historic Celebration of Freedom and Unity
LAS VEGAS — The United States is marking a significant milestone as it celebrates its 250th anniversary. On Saturday, thousands gathered in the streets of Summerlin for one of the valley’s most anticipated Fourth of July events, which also serves as a tribute to America’s semi-quincentennial. The Summerlin Council Patriotic Parade, this year themed “United We Celebrate 250,” is an official America250 Nevada event that highlights the nation’s rich history and enduring values.
The parade has evolved into Southern Nevada’s largest Independence Day celebration, drawing over 35,000 spectators annually. It brings together hundreds of volunteers and thousands of participants, creating a vibrant display of patriotism and community spirit.
For first-time attendee Jason Jimenez, the event was a proud moment. “It’s a proud moment to be a part of it. For sure, we live in a great country; freedom is a big thing, we’re lucky to live where we do,” he said. Jimenez emphasized that the parade isn’t just about celebrating the Fourth of July but also about instilling values in his children that he hopes they carry throughout their lives.

Jimenez shared that he wants his children to understand the importance of appreciating the freedoms they have. “Yes, most definitely, for sure, I try not to let them take that for granted,” he added.
For many attendees, the celebration goes beyond fireworks and festivities. It is a way to honor the generations who came before them and to reflect on the nation’s enduring legacy.
Sheena Elkind, a regular attendee of the Summerlin Council Patriotic Parade for the past four years, described this year’s event as especially meaningful. “We decided we wanted to go big or go home, so I want to say we got here around 5 am yesterday,” she said. Elkind noted that this is a rare occasion for America to turn 250, making the celebration even more significant.
“To instill patriotism in them, no matter what’s going on in the country, we’ve been around for so long, and we should be very proud of that,” Elkind said.
Former Raiders defensive back and Super Bowl champion Keith Moody highlighted the importance of community in Las Vegas. “Giving back to the community, showing that we really care about the community and we love to contribute in any way we can to make the community a better place,” he said.
The parade featured over 70 entries, including giant balloons, military and veteran organizations, marching bands, and community groups. Each participant played a role in showcasing the spirit of unity and pride that defines the American experience.
As the celebrations continued, the streets of Summerlin were filled with the sounds of music, the sight of colorful floats, and the joy of families coming together to honor the nation’s history and future. The event served as a reminder of the values that continue to unite people across the country, regardless of their backgrounds or differences.
The Summerlin Council Patriotic Parade is more than just a celebration of the Fourth of July; it is a testament to the resilience, diversity, and strength of the American spirit. As the nation looks back on 250 years of progress and challenges, the parade stands as a powerful symbol of hope, unity, and the enduring promise of freedom.
