MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – A new free health clinic has officially opened in North Memphis, offering essential medical services to a community that has long faced significant healthcare challenges. The ShelbyCares Health Hub in Raleigh is the latest addition to a growing network of clinics designed to address disparities in access to care.
The clinic was unveiled on Tuesday by Shelby County leaders in collaboration with the University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Medicine. This marks the fifth ShelbyCares Health Hub established during Mayor Lee Harris’ tenure. Previous locations include Uptown, Soulsville, Binghampton, and Whitehaven, each serving some of the most medically underserved areas in the city.
Services Provided
The ShelbyCares Health Hubs provide a wide range of services aimed at improving public health outcomes. These include:
- Free health screenings
- Nutrition coaching
- Fitness resources
Residents are not required to have health insurance to access these services, making them accessible to all members of the community. The initiative is part of a broader effort to bridge the gap in healthcare access and promote preventive care.
Addressing Health Disparities
Data reveals stark differences in life expectancy between neighborhoods in Memphis. Residents of Raleigh live up to 20 years less than those in nearby areas like Germantown and Cordova. County officials hope that the new health hub will help close this gap by bringing critical health services directly to the community.
“Every family deserves access to quality preventative care, regardless of their ZIP Code,” said Mayor Harris. “By bringing these services directly into neighborhoods like Raleigh, we’re removing barriers and making it easier for residents to take charge of their health.”
Impact and Success
Since the first ShelbyCares location opened in 2022, thousands of residents have participated in the program. Many have reported improved health outcomes due to increased access to preventive care, education, and ongoing wellness support.
One early participant, retired pharmacist Dr. Cornelia Hamilton, shared her experience. She noted that she lost 10 pounds in just one month through the program’s nutrition and fitness initiatives.
Location and Access
The newest ShelbyCares Health Hub is located at Raleigh Plaza, 3620 Austin Peay Highway, Suite 2. Residents interested in learning more or signing up for services can visit the location directly or reach out for additional information.

Residents are encouraged to take advantage of the services available at the ShelbyCares Health Hub. By prioritizing prevention and wellness, the initiative aims to create lasting positive change in the communities it serves.
