It practically tastes like summer.

Costco is serving up a new summer dessert, and it’s inspired by seriously nostalgic flavors.

The warehouse retailer has debuted a new Kirkland Signature Waffle Cone Bar Cake, a bakery item inspired by the flavors of a classic ice cream cone. The seasonal dessert features layers of waffle cone-flavored sponge cake, creamy frosting, crunchy waffle cone crumbles, and chocolate and caramel drizzle. It’s also topped with mini chocolate-filled waffle cones for a crunchy, nostalgic touch.

The cake, which weighs more than two pounds, retails for $18.99, and a video shared by Costco Hot Finds on Instagram already has shoppers salivating.

“Looks super delicious. I’d better get two,” one shopper wrote.

Another added, “Omg I need this now!”

In another viral video shared on a Costco-centric account, the shoppers did a taste test and were unfortunately not impressed.

“We were really disappointed in this bar cake,” they shared in the video. “The flavor is very muted, generic tasting, and no flavor stood out. We didn’t get any waffle cone pieces inside the cake. From what we could tell, it just tasted like a simple plain cake. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t good. We gave our five year old a small piece, and even he only made it halfway through his slice.”

While Costco’s bar cakes have developed a somewhat loyal following, other shoppers shared that bar cakes, as a whole, are not Costco’s shining bakery item.

“None of Costco’s bar cakes were good. I thought they were all flavorless and mushy. They look amazing, which is why people pick them up, but flavor wise, not a good cake,” one shopper wrote.

Another added, “Their bar cakes aren’t good in my opinion.. they’re pretty bland.”

Mixed reviews haven’t stopped curious Costco shoppers from hunting down the new dessert for themselves, and with nostalgic-inspired treats dominating summer menus, the Waffle Cone Bar Cake may end up being one of the season’s most talked-about bakery finds—whether shoppers love it or not.

A Nostalgic Treat with Mixed Reactions

The Waffle Cone Bar Cake has sparked a wide range of reactions from customers. Some see it as a perfect way to bring back childhood memories, while others feel it falls short of expectations.

Here’s a breakdown of the key points from customer feedback:

  • Many shoppers were drawn to the product because of its nostalgic appeal and visually appealing design.
  • Some praised the texture and the crunch of the waffle cone pieces.
  • Others found the flavor to be underwhelming, with some describing it as “generic” or “muted.”
  • A few noted that the cake lacked the distinct waffle cone flavor they expected.
  • Despite the mixed reviews, the cake remains popular among those looking for a unique summer treat.

Why Nostalgia-Driven Products Are Trending

Nostalgia-driven products have become increasingly popular in recent years, especially during the summer months when people seek comfort in familiar flavors. The Waffle Cone Bar Cake taps into this trend by offering a dessert that evokes memories of ice cream cones, a beloved treat for many.

However, the success of such products often depends on how well they replicate the original experience. In this case, some customers felt that the cake didn’t fully capture the essence of a classic ice cream cone.

Costco’s Bakery Lineup: A Mixed Bag

Costco’s bakery items have had their share of highs and lows. While some products, like the famous cinnamon rolls, have gained a cult-like following, others have struggled to live up to expectations.

The Waffle Cone Bar Cake is the latest addition to this lineup, and its reception has been split. Some shoppers are excited about the novelty, while others remain skeptical.

What Shoppers Are Saying

Here are some of the most common comments from customers who have tried the Waffle Cone Bar Cake:

  • “I was expecting a stronger waffle cone flavor, but it was pretty subtle.”
  • “It’s not bad, but I don’t think it’s worth the price.”
  • “The texture was nice, but the flavor just didn’t stand out.”
  • “I’ll try it again, but I’m not sure if I’ll buy it again.”

Despite the mixed reviews, the cake continues to attract attention, and its unique concept may still make it a standout item for some customers.

Final Thoughts

The Waffle Cone Bar Cake is an interesting addition to Costco’s seasonal offerings, blending nostalgia with a modern twist. Whether it becomes a hit or a miss depends largely on individual preferences.

For those who enjoy experimenting with new desserts, this cake offers a fun and flavorful option. For others, it may not live up to the hype.

As the summer season continues, it will be interesting to see how this product performs in the long run and whether it can earn a permanent spot in Costco’s bakery lineup.
