The Cast of the New ‘Descendants’ Movie Speaks on the Possibility of Another Film

Need to Know: Descendants: Wicked Wonderland

The latest film, Descendants: Wicked Wonderland, follows Chloe (Malia Baker) and Red (Kylie Cantrall) as they face the consequences of their time travel in The Rise of Red. The movie ends on a cliffhanger with Pink’s character (Liamani Segura) playing a key role. The cast has shared their thoughts on the possibility of another film and who would be open to reprising their roles.

Disney Channel’s iconic Descendants franchise is back, and this time they’re upping the ante with Wicked Wonderland. But is this where it all ends?

Following the events of 2024’s The Rise of Red, the new film follows Chloe and Red as they learn that their time travel created major consequences for their present-day lives. While they were able to save Cinderella (Brandy) and make the Queen of Hearts (Rita Ora) nice, there are other unexpected side effects, such as Red now having a little sister named Pink and Maddox Hatter (Leonardo Nam) becoming a villain.

With the help of some VKs and HKs (aka the villain kids and hero kids) — including new additions Captain Hook’s daughter, Hazel (Kiara T. Romero); Luisa Madrigal’s son, Luis (Alexandro Byrd); Maddox Hatter’s son, Max (Brendon Tremblay) — the team is able to work together to make things right once again … or so they think.

Just like all Descendants movies, the film ends on a bit of a cliffhanger as Chessy Cheshire (Awkwafina) teases that this might not be the end of the story in Wonderland.

So, what does that mean for the future of the franchise? Several cast members have given their own interpretation of the pivotal moment and what they’d like to see from their characters in a follow-up film.

Does Chloe Become Evil?

Towards the end of the film, Max heads to Maddox’s workshop alone to see if he can reason with his father as he holds Cinderella and Rita Ora captive. However, when he shows up, Chessy Cheshire appears, taunting him with the Oraculum, which has the ability to show both timelines.

It’s there he learns that Chloe and Red changed the present with the pocket watch. Notably in the former timeline, Maddox never went mad and was a kind, loving father. Overcome with anger, he attempts to take fate into his own hands and change things back to the way they were.

However, he must first get his hands on the pocket watch, which only Red and Chloe can access. Stumbling upon a magic book, he creates a bracelet that turns Chloe evil (complete with a dramatic makeover) to help him carry out his plan.

Though he almost succeeds, at the last minute Red is able to break through to Chloe, convincing her that the future they built together and their friendship are far too important to mess with.

Reluctantly, Max agrees that they can’t use the pocket watch again, and they decide to throw it in a magic well.

What Happens to Maddox Hatter?

As Pink and the gang break into the palace, they are able to free Cinderella and the Queen of Hearts from Maddox’s thorny trap and hold him captive under a chandelier.

Though Max doesn’t use the pocket watch to make his father nice again, Red and Chloe make a pact to help him, bringing hope that Maddox will eventually find his way back to the kind father he once was.

Meanwhile, Red and Chloe are reunited with their mothers, and the Queen of Hearts has a brief relapse to her evil ways, shouting, “Off with his head” to Maddox, before giggling, “Where did that come from?” Perhaps another side effect of time travel?

The group reconvenes and decides to host a formal celebration: a tea party at the palace, which serves as the final dance number.

What Does the Ending with Pink Mean?

After breaking down on the dance floor, the camera pans out from the Queen of Hearts’ castle as Chessy appears, promising “new mischief” in the near future. As she laughs sinisterly, there’s a separate scene of Pink after the party.

Hearing a mysterious melody, Pink looks under a table to discover a magical, glowing heart-shaped box. She lights up at the sight of it, before closing it to reveal the text on the outside reads: “Pink + Red’s Treasures.”

As she skips merrily away, Chessy reappears, teasing to the camera, “Oh, you didn’t think that was the end of the story, did you? Of course not! That would be too sweet.” A possible nod to the sweet-as-candy character, Pink?

Speaking with Daily News Lite, Segura, 17, plays coy about what the final scene could mean for her character. “What if Pink is evil?” she teases, joking she could get a Princess Audrey “Queen of Mean” transformation in a follow-up film. “Maybe she has powers that she doesn’t know of,” Segura suggests.

Will There Be a Sequel to ‘Descendants: Wicked Wonderland’?

Regardless of what the final sequence could mean, it’s clear that Descendants isn’t quite done with telling fairytale stories, and neither is the cast!

Speaking with Daily News Lite, Rita Ora, Brandy and Leonardo Nam unanimously agree that they would all be down to return for another film.

“Absolutely, yes. You don’t even need to finish the sentence,” Ora, 34, quips when asked if she’d be interested in reprising her role. She adds that there would be “so much” to explore with the Queen of Hearts in another movie.

“My children are growing. I’ve got two [kids] in this one,” she says. “I don’t know what the future of the Queen of Hearts is, but I loved the idea of switching from villain to goodie to villain to goodie.”

As long as her costars are in, Ora is excited to jump back in. “[Brandy] is forever gonna be the silver line and bring us all together,” she adds of the Cinderella star.

While Ora, Nam and Brandy are all in for another movie, their onscreen daughters, Kylie Cantrall and Malia Baker, noted that they feel quite content with where their characters ended in Wicked Wonderland.

“It’s been the joy of a lifetime playing this character,” Cantrall, 21, prefaces, before adding, “I feel so content with Red’s story up until this point. So I guess it’s in the Mouse’s hands to see.”

Baker, 19, would personally love to see Chloe step into a teacher role, but adds that she’s “excited” to see wherever the story goes. “There’s so much love and heart poured into them that whoever gets to step into these [movies] is beyond blessed. I’m cheering on the franchise.”
