The upcoming World Cup final on Sunday is facing concerns regarding air quality in New York, following the ongoing impact of Canadian wildfires. While FIFA has not expressed any worries about the situation affecting the match in New Jersey, local authorities have issued serious warnings to residents and visitors.

Spain and Argentina are set to compete for the World Cup trophy at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford. This has been a memorable tournament, with dramatic events both on and off the field. As the final approaches, the latest air quality forecast offers some hope for improved conditions ahead of the game.

What the air quality report says for Saturday before the World Cup final

This is not the first time that weather conditions have influenced this summer’s World Cup. Fans from England and Mexico are well aware of how weather can disrupt matches, as seen in their delayed game at the Azteca.

According to the latest forecast from Accu Weather, New York’s air quality is currently rated as very unhealthy for Saturday. Health experts recommend the following precautions:

  • Avoid outdoor exercise
  • Close all windows
  • Wear a mask when outside
  • Use an air purifier indoors

However, there is some positive news for Sunday’s final. The air quality is expected to improve from very unhealthy to unhealthy levels. The match between Spain and Argentina will start at 3 p.m. local time in East Rutherford, with the closing ceremony beginning at 1:30 p.m.

Despite the ongoing concerns, the extended half-time show will give players a chance to rest during what is anticipated to be a 30-minute break.
