New Pickleball Courts Open in Solon Community Park

Solon, Ohio is set to welcome a new and exciting addition to its recreational offerings with the grand opening of the pickleball court complex at Solon Community Park. This latest development marks a significant milestone in the ongoing transformation of the park, which has been undergoing a major redevelopment project.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony and grand opening celebration will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. on July 24. Visitors are encouraged to park in the Portz Parkway parking lot for easy access to the event. The new facility features 10 outdoor pickleball courts, including two championship courts that are ADA accessible, making it an inclusive space for players of all abilities.

The celebration will offer a variety of activities, including open play, games, refreshments, and music from a DJ. Players of all skill levels are invited to bring their paddles and join in the fun. The first 100 players to arrive will receive free giveaway items, adding to the excitement of the event.

This new pickleball complex is part of a broader effort to revitalize Solon Community Park, one of the city’s largest park projects to date. The renovation has brought numerous improvements to the long-standing community gathering space, enhancing its appeal as a destination for recreation, events, and family activities.

Key Features of the Park Redevelopment

Several notable features have been completed as part of the park’s transformation:

  • Sebastian’s Playground: This inclusive play space, dedicated to the memory of 4-year-old Sebastian Botirius, opened in 2025. It includes equipment designed for children of all abilities and has become a central attraction in the park.
  • Swagelok Stage: A venue for concerts and performances, offering a space for cultural and community events.
  • Cole Zelwin Central Park Gathering Space: Designed for larger community gatherings and social events.
  • New Entry Pavilion: Includes public restrooms and serves as a welcoming entrance to the park.
  • Concessions Building: Provides food and beverage options for visitors.
  • Expanded Walking Paths: Enhance accessibility and encourage physical activity.
  • Upgraded Utilities and Landscaped Green Space: Improve the overall aesthetics and functionality of the park.

These enhancements are part of a comprehensive plan to make Solon Community Park a year-round destination for residents and visitors alike.

Community Impact and Future Plans

Parks and Recreation Director Rich Parker highlighted the significance of the project, stating that it represents a complete transformation of the park. The new infrastructure replaces aging facilities and creates spaces for larger community gatherings, ensuring that the park remains a vibrant hub for the community.

The July 24 grand opening is free and open to the public, inviting all residents to participate in the celebration of this new amenity. Whether you’re a seasoned pickleball player or trying the sport for the first time, there’s something for everyone at the new pickleball court complex.

With the addition of these courts, Solon continues to demonstrate its commitment to providing diverse recreational opportunities that cater to people of all ages and abilities. The park redevelopment project not only enhances the quality of life for local residents but also strengthens the sense of community through shared spaces and activities.

As the park continues to evolve, it is clear that Solon is investing in its future by creating a dynamic environment where families, friends, and neighbors can come together to enjoy the outdoors and each other’s company.
