Monroe, La. – Ouachita Parish Schools have launched the registration process for students who are new to the district. School officials are urging families to begin the process as soon as possible.
Administrative assistants Tiera McMillan-Johnson and Beverly Davis emphasized that new enrollment is available throughout the year. However, there is a specific deadline for this period, which runs from July 6 through August 28. Families are required to bring two current utility bills that are printed out and a valid form of identification.
Beverly Davis encouraged families to be patient during the registration process.
McMillan-Johnson explained that families who live with other family members and do not have bills in their name have an alternative option.
“Families of students that live with other family members and may not have the bills in his or her name,” McMillan-Johnson said. “So you’ll come and get an affidavit. You’ll get that document notarized with two bills and a person’s name you’re living with, their ID and your ID.”
Davis urged families not to delay starting the enrollment process.
“Not at the last minute, so that those children can start off with a schedule and ready for school,” Davis said.
The Child Welfare and Attendance Office will be open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This office serves as a key resource for families navigating the enrollment process and ensuring that all necessary documentation is properly submitted.
For families who may need additional assistance, the office offers support in understanding the requirements and completing the necessary paperwork. The goal is to make the process as smooth and stress-free as possible for all students and their families.
In addition to the standard documents, families should also be prepared to provide any other forms of proof of residence or identity that may be required. This could include rental agreements, lease contracts, or other official records that verify a student’s address.
School officials are also reminding families that early registration helps ensure that students are placed in the correct grade level and assigned to the appropriate classes. This allows for a more seamless transition into the school year and helps avoid last-minute complications.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to reach out to the school district if they have any questions or need further clarification on the enrollment process. The administrative staff is committed to providing clear guidance and support to every family.
By taking the time to complete the registration process early, families can help set their children up for success from the very beginning of the school year. This proactive approach ensures that students are well-prepared and ready to engage in their education from day one.
Overall, the initiative by Ouachita Parish Schools highlights the importance of community involvement and the role that schools play in supporting the educational journey of every student. With the right resources and guidance, families can navigate the enrollment process with confidence and ease.
