I reach for it every day.
Trader Joe’s has always been something of a playground for me, and one of my favorite aspects is exploring all the new products. Their extensive spice section is often especially fun, and it can create all sorts of new dish and menu possibilities.
My latest obsession is Trader Joe’s new Spicy Pink Salt with Crushed Red Chili Pepper, which sells for only $2, and is admittedly easy to miss when roaming down the spice aisle. In fact, if it had not been highlighted as a new product, I may have not picked it up to take a second look. But I’m so glad I did. It’s so simple, but yet so versatile and adds layers of flavor to everything.
My initial thought was that I’d sprinkle the blend of pink salt and crushed red chili pepper flakes on potato wedges or fries just before serving. It’s great for adding a subtle heat. But it’s become so much more than that, and I’m adding it to eggs, salads, avocado toast, pastas, and even soups and stews or sprinkling on popcorn.

My absolute favorite way to enjoy it is those potato wedges, though. Just toss the wedges with some oil, and season with the spicy salt. Cook in the air fryer at 400°F for about 25 minutes. It’s scrumptious. It also gives just the kick to my nightly popcorn treat that I never knew it always needed.
I’m something of a spice fiend, and if you’re looking for a serious kick, you’ll still want to add your hot sauce or salsa. But for a little bit of a subtle touch of heat, this is a great way to add buildable seasoning.
I’m also excited to use this seasoning on fresh fruits, as a sort of lime-less spin on Tajin that should complement so many fresh citrus flavors.
A good option both for seasoning while cooking, and as a finishing touch after a dish is ready to enjoy, this is one $2 item that’s going to get a whole lot more than its money worth with me this season.
