Plumbers in Michigan found a decades-old engagement ring while working on a pipe

A Lost Ring Found After Over a Decade

A lost engagement ring has been returned to its original owner after being discovered by plumbers in Michigan. The ring, which had been missing for over 10 years, was found inside a pipe during a routine plumbing job. The story of how it was reunited with its owner is both heartwarming and surprising.

The ring was discovered when a plumber noticed something shiny inside the pipe they were working on. Greg Johnson, owner of Titan Plumbing in Howell, recalls the moment the discovery was made. “He picked it up and we looked at each other and he was like, ‘What do we do with this?'” Johnson said. “I’m like, ‘Let’s see if we can find the owner!'”

Social Media Helps Track Down the Owner

Johnson’s team posted about the ring on social media, hoping someone might recognize it. Their post caught the attention of Sue, a former employee at the Fountain of Youth Spa. She remembered an incident that happened over a decade ago when a customer accidentally dropped her wedding ring into a toilet.

“She remembered 10 years ago that a customer that was in her store dropped her wedding ring down the toilet, and Sue and this customer tried to fish it out themselves,” explained Jason Matznick, general manager of Titan Plumbing. “They got big rubber gloves and were reaching down the toilet trying to get this ring out, and it was gone.”

Sue eventually reached out to the ring’s owner, Carol Oram. When Oram saw the ring, she immediately recognized it. “She finally came in and saw the ring and said it looks like mine,” Matznick said. Oram provided original paperwork from 1965, confirming that the ring was hers.

A Heartfelt Reunion

After nearly a decade, the ring was returned to Oram. However, because it had been sitting in the pipe for so long, it was extremely dirty and appeared to be yellow gold. It wasn’t until the ring was cleaned and polished at a local jeweler that it sparkled again.

“She put it on. They were crying. It was cute!” Matznick said. The emotional moment was a reminder of the sentimental value the ring held for Oram.

Johnson expressed his happiness at being able to help return the ring. “I know that if it was my wife, she would look until she couldn’t look anymore, so it was good to get it back to her,” he said.

The Journey of a Forgotten Ring

The ring had been lost in a toilet at the spa more than 10 years ago. Oram had never expected to see it again, especially after the initial attempts to retrieve it failed. The fact that it was found after so many years is nothing short of miraculous.

The story highlights the importance of community efforts and the power of social media in reconnecting people with lost items. It also serves as a touching reminder of how objects can carry deep emotional significance.

For those who have ever lost something valuable, this story is a hopeful one. It shows that even after years of being forgotten, there is still a chance for things to be found and returned.
