New Leadership at Bobby Joe Hill PK-8 STEAM Academy
EL PASO, Texas — The Bobby Joe Hill PK-8 STEAM Academy has welcomed a new principal, marking an exciting chapter for the school. Monica Brinkley has been appointed as the academy’s new leader, bringing with her over two decades of experience in education and a track record of success in enhancing student achievement.
Brinkley’s appointment comes after a thorough selection process that highlighted her leadership skills and dedication to educational excellence. She is known for her ability to foster positive school cultures and implement effective campus improvement strategies, which have consistently led to improved outcomes for students.
The Bobby Joe Hill PK-8 STEAM Academy is one of El Paso ISD’s specialized campuses, offering a unique approach to learning through hands-on, project-based experiences. This curriculum integrates science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics (STEAM), providing students with a well-rounded education that prepares them for future challenges.

Before taking on this role, Brinkley served as an interim principal at Cooley Elementary, where she played a key role in launching the school’s redesigned STEM academy. Her career in education includes several leadership positions, such as principal at Rusk Elementary, assistant principal at Sunrise Elementary, and math and reading coach at Cielo Vista Elementary. She also began her career as a classroom teacher at Fannin Elementary.
Superintendent Brian Lusk, Ph.D., praised Brinkley for her experience and vision. “Monica is an experienced instructional leader who understands how to build strong school communities while keeping student success at the center of every decision,” he said. “Her experience leading academic improvement and developing innovative learning environments makes her an outstanding choice to lead Bobby Joe Hill PK-8 STEAM Academy.”
Brinkley’s educational background includes a bachelor of science in geological sciences with a minor in mathematics from the University of Texas at El Paso. She also holds a master of education in educational administration. In addition, she is certified as a Texas Principal and is proficient in the Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T-TESS) and the Texas Principal Evaluation and Support System (TPESS).
With her extensive experience and commitment to student success, Brinkley is poised to make a significant impact at the Bobby Joe Hill PK-8 STEAM Academy. Her leadership will undoubtedly help shape the future of the school and its students.
