Major League Baseball Announces Historic 2027 Season Schedule
The Major League Baseball (MLB) season is set to break new ground in 2027, with the league unveiling a schedule that includes its earliest Opening Day ever. This marks a significant shift in the traditional timing of the baseball season, as the first game will be played on March 24, followed by 14 games on March 25. This early start surpasses any previous Opening Night date, which had never occurred before March 26.
In addition to the early start, the 2027 season will also feature the continuation of “Rivalry Weekend,” an event that takes place immediately after the All-Star break from July 15 to July 18. This weekend will showcase interleague matchups between rival teams and will be preceded by the 97th edition of the All-Star Game on July 13 at Wrigley Field in Chicago.
Wrigley Field has a long history of hosting the Midsummer Classic, having done so four times in its storied past. The 2027 event will make it the only active venue to host the All-Star Game four times, joining a select group of venues that have reached this milestone in MLB history. The Home Run Derby, a staple of the All-Star events, will take place the night before the main game on July 12.
