Major League Baseball Announces Historic 2027 Season Schedule

The Major League Baseball (MLB) season is set to break new ground in 2027, with the league unveiling a schedule that includes its earliest Opening Day ever. This marks a significant shift in the traditional timing of the baseball season, as the first game will be played on March 24, followed by 14 games on March 25. This early start surpasses any previous Opening Night date, which had never occurred before March 26.

In addition to the early start, the 2027 season will also feature the continuation of “Rivalry Weekend,” an event that takes place immediately after the All-Star break from July 15 to July 18. This weekend will showcase interleague matchups between rival teams and will be preceded by the 97th edition of the All-Star Game on July 13 at Wrigley Field in Chicago.

Wrigley Field has a long history of hosting the Midsummer Classic, having done so four times in its storied past. The 2027 event will make it the only active venue to host the All-Star Game four times, joining a select group of venues that have reached this milestone in MLB history. The Home Run Derby, a staple of the All-Star events, will take place the night before the main game on July 12.

Season Wrap-Up and Special Dates

The 2027 season will conclude on September 26, with 10 divisional matchups that could determine playoff positioning for several teams. Throughout the season, fans can look forward to a full slate of games on several special dates, including:

  • Jackie Robinson Day on April 15
  • Memorial Day on May 31
  • Lou Gehrig Day on June 2
  • Independence Day on July 4
  • Labor Day on September 6
  • Roberto Clemente Day on September 15

On Jackie Robinson Day, the Los Angeles Dodgers will host the Colorado Rockies, while the New York Yankees will face the Kansas City Royals on Lou Gehrig Day. The Pittsburgh Pirates will take on the St. Louis Cardinals on Roberto Clemente Day.

Notable Games and Events

Other highlights of the 2027 schedule include:

  • The Boston Red Sox hosting the Cleveland Guardians on Patriots Day (April 19)
  • The Oakland Athletics hosting back-to-back series at Las Vegas Ballpark, starting with the San Diego Padres on May 31 and the Cincinnati Reds on June 3
  • The San Diego Padres hosting the Chicago Cubs for a split doubleheader on June 22
  • The Toronto Blue Jays hosting the Los Angeles Angels on Canada Day (July 1)
  • The Colorado Rockies hosting the San Diego Padres for a split doubleheader on July 10

These games and events are sure to draw large crowds and provide exciting moments for fans across the country.

The 2027 season promises to be one of the most anticipated in recent years, with a mix of historic milestones, special events, and high-stakes matchups.
