High-Speed Chase Ends in Arrest of 29-Year-Old Man in Omaha
A 29-year-old man was arrested after leading Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) troopers on a high-speed chase that reached speeds over 140 miles per hour. The incident occurred on Friday around 10:10 p.m. near Interstate 680 and West Maple Road in Omaha.
According to a news release from NSP, a trooper observed a motorcycle “driving recklessly” on the interstate and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. However, the driver accelerated rapidly, reaching speeds exceeding 140 mph. This prompted a pursuit that lasted several miles.
Omaha Police Department’s helicopter, known as OPD’s Able-1, joined the effort, following the vehicle from the air as it traveled westward. The news release noted that the driver eventually turned around and headed back toward a neighborhood near the I-680 and Maple area before stopping and entering a residence.
The helicopter was instrumental in directing both NSP troopers and Douglas County deputies to the location. Despite multiple attempts to contact the driver, troopers were able to reach him via phone. Eventually, the man exited the home and was taken into custody.
He was charged with several offenses, including willful reckless driving, flight to avoid arrest, obstructing a peace officer, failure to obey a lawful order, no operator’s license, and various traffic violations.
