A four-year-old boy went missing for several minutes while playing in a park in the Black Country, just metres away from his mother. The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon at Haden Hill Park in Cradley Heath, prompting West Midlands Police to launch a manhunt.
The child was with his mother near the fish pond in the park shortly after 3 p.m. when the incident took place. During this time, the mother was tending to a baby, and the boy disappeared for a few minutes. The alarm was raised, and he was found a short time later in nearby woodland.
Specialist officers are currently speaking with the boy and his family to determine exactly what transpired. According to police reports, the suspect is described as a young man in his late teens, of black ethnicity, short in stature, with curly hair. He was clean-shaven and wearing black clothing.
In response to the incident, extra police officers will be patrolling the area over the coming days to provide reassurance to the public.

West Midlands Police have emphasized that they believe the event is an isolated incident. A statement from the police read: “We believe this is an isolated incident, but we understand how concerning it is and the impact it will have on the area and the local community.”
The police are currently reviewing CCTV footage as part of their investigation. They are also appealing to witnesses to come forward, especially those who may have been in the park at the time and could have mobile footage that might be relevant.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the police by calling 101 and quoting log number 3966-180626. Alternatively, individuals can reach out to Crimestoppers anonymously at 0800 555111.
The community remains on high alert, with local residents expressing concern over the incident. Parents have been advised to remain vigilant when taking children to public spaces, particularly parks where such incidents can occur.
The police have also encouraged anyone who may have seen or heard anything unusual during the time of the incident to come forward. This includes people who were walking, jogging, or simply passing through the park.
As the investigation continues, authorities are working to ensure the safety of the community and prevent any similar incidents from occurring in the future. Local leaders have also expressed support for the affected family and have called for calm and cooperation from the public.
The case has sparked discussions about the need for increased security and supervision in public areas, especially in places where children are commonly present. Some residents have suggested the installation of more surveillance cameras and the presence of additional staff to monitor activities in the park.
Overall, the incident serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and community involvement in maintaining safety. While the situation remains under control, the police continue to investigate and gather all possible evidence to bring clarity to the events that unfolded in Haden Hill Park.
